||

||
<p>I found a hint in the <a href="http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:FAQ#I_changed_the_language_but_nothing_happens.2C_what.27s_wrong.3F">Gallery2 FAQs</a> which pointed me to <em>locales</em> that are used by gettext. On my server (Ubuntu 7.10) no locales were configured so with a little help from <a href="http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-select-and-generate-locales-on-ubuntu.html">ubuntugeek.com</a> I enabled <code>de_DE.UTF-8</code> and <code>en_US.UTF-8</code> (adding both as new lines to <code>/var/lib/locales/supported.d/local</code>), then <code>dpkg-reconfigure locales</code> and restart Apache.</p>
